Warnings to the Church

Paul warns Timothy very graphically ‘that a time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn away from the truth and turn aside to myths.’(2 Timothy 4:3-4)

An example of this is how homosexuality is being accepted as normal in some churches. Others have allowed prevailing scientific ideas, psychology and modern culture to influence their beliefs and lifestyle and so they have strayed away from God‘s moral order and orthodox Christianity. Jude warns us about ’godless men, who change the grace of God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord..’ (Jude 4)

God wants to restore the Church, which has been defiled not only by sexual sin, but by multi-faith acts of worship, religion and tradition, witchcraft and Freemasonry; where the ideas of man have been exalted above scriptural truth and where the Holy Spirit has been quenched. We are warned especially against false teachers of the Law, who focus on trivia, myths and genealogies (1 Timothy 1) or are bound up in religious doctrine and legalism. (Galatians 3). The righteous live by faith, not law, for as Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free’ and ‘If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.’ (John 8: 32 and 36).

This is not a license to sin. Anyone who knows and loves the Lord, wants to please Jesus and to ‘walk in the Spirit’. Paul urges us to become mature in the faith and not be taken in my lies and deception. ’Then we will no longer be infants tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunningness and craftiness of men and their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is Christ .(Ephesians 4:14-15)

There are serious consequences of taking God’s word lightly, in ignoring his commandments or disregarding prophecy.

John makes a strong statement about the revelation he was given about what was to happen: ‘I warn everyone who hears the words of prophecy of this book: if anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which is described in this book.’ (Revelation 22:18-19).
